Our History

Rescue Outreach Mission was founded in 1986 by Mother Blanche Bell Weaver while she served as pastor of the Rescue Church of God. Mother Weaver saw desperate people in her community living without the basic essentials and with the support of her church and its members she set out to help those in need. The mission now focuses on helping men and women return to self-sufficiency by providing transitional housing and case management.

Our Mission Statement:

Rescue Outreach Mission, the only Emergency Shelter in Seminole County, exists to serve disadvantaged people of Central Florida by providing resources that help prevent homelessness and by helping those who are already homeless return to self-sufficiency.

Rescue Outreach Mission is a 501(c)3 corporation. Major funders include the Heart of Florida United Way, Seminole County, Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, Disney, Orlando Sentinel McCormik Foundation and numerous other foundations, churches, service clubs, businesses and individuals.

Though more than a quarter century has passed since Mother Weaver officially opened the Mission, her vision is still alive through the work of our dedicated staff, many volunteers and the support of local government, charitable organizations and caring individuals.

Mother Blanche Bell Weaver

Mother Weaver, born on August 23, 1923, moved from New

Jersey to Sanford Florida in 1968, where she founded The

Rescue Church of God and Rescue Outreach Mission of

Central Florida.

Mother Weaver passed away in May of 2014, but her

compassion for people was an inspiration that has sparked

change in the community for over 25 years. She will be

dearly missed not just by her family and friends, but also her

beloved community.

The legacy she has left is lasting and will live on through the

good works of Rescue Outreach.
